Email Terms You Need to Know.

Every industry has its own jargon, and email marketing is no different. The "experts" you meet will throw around lots of terms and no one in the industry will even blink. Email list - Anytime you send email, you're sending it to a list. This term just refers to the list of names to whom you send your emails.

Email list management - Refers to keeping track of people who subscribe to join your list, removing unsubscribers, tracking responses, cleaning off old or bad addresses, and generally keeping things organized.

Email marketing services - Businesses that work to handle email marketing on behalf of their clients. They take care of list management, help create content, drive traffic to websites, handle online ad campaigns and more.

Opt in email lists - A list of people who have asked to receive your content. Opt in email lists are the most valuable kind, and mailing to people who haven't opted in can get you in trouble for spamming.

Email marketing newsletter - A newsletter sent via email. Email newsletters are just one kind of content you can send to your list of subscribers. You can use them to sell, promote particular products, or give information.

Email blast - A large number of emails sent all at once ("blasted") to your list.
